Aqiqah is a slaughter performed on the 7th day after the birth of a baby as a sign of gratitude to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala for the birth of the baby. The law of Aqiqah is the Muakkad Sunnah, which is the Sunnah that is highly demanded by Islam.
The best time to perform aqiqah is on the 7th day after the birth of the baby. It can also be done on the 14th day, or the 21st day if time does not permit on the 7th day as mentioned in the hadith of the Prophet sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam . As for if it's after the number of times mentioned, then it doesn't matter because the basic law/origin of aqiqah is its implementation on every birth once in a lifetime.
Aqiqah worship is a special worship performed because of the birth of a new baby which is performed for the purpose of our gratitude to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala . This worship time is not limited and can be done at any time according to each person's ability. As for the Sacrifice, it is a special act of worship that is performed at a specific time only, which is during the Hajj Season. It is a time-limited worship that is from 10 Zulhijjah to 13 Zulhijjah only.
In addition, the law between the two is also different which the scholars have different opinions about the law of this sacrifice. The majority of scholars say that the worship of the Sacrifice is OBLIGATORY based on the Qur'anic verse in Surah al-Kauthar, which means: "Then pray and perform the Sacrifice" - Verse 2. The obligatory law is based on the pronunciation of 'instructions/orders' which used by Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in this verse. As for the law of Aqiqah worship, it is the Muakkad Sunnah, which is the required sunnah (slightly below the obligatory law).
Wallahu a'lam.
The best time is the 7th days in a week after the baby is born.
Some scholars say that the wisdom of determining the 7th day is because it is symbolic of the perfection of 7 days in a week after the baby is born, as well as instilling an optimistic attitude in the parents so that the child will be blessed with a long life and also be blessed with long-lasting health.
The amount of slaughter is different according to the gender of the baby.
BABY BOY = 2 Tails
FEMALE BABY = 1 Tail
If the parents are only able to perform 1 tail for a male baby, then it is okay, according to the available capabilities. If you are blessed with sustenance in the future, you can add to and perfect the Aqiqah worship.
The original law of Aqiqah is the father's responsibility (from his money) according to his ability. It is required until the child reaches the age of puberty. As for after puberty, the father is no longer bound by the law of aqiqah on the condition that he is indeed unable from a financial point of view and so on.
The child can perform aqiqah for himself after reaching adulthood and having surplus sustenance.
Yes, with the father's permission because the original responsibility of Aqiqah is to the child's father, that is from his own property.
